 Advice Resolutions successfully challenges council tax payment structure under a London Borough Council's procedures and policies

One of our clients with a historical case against a London Borough Council approached Advice Resolutions for assistance with a council tax payment dispute. Advice Resolutions were quick to step into action and examine all threads of our client’s council tax account. Swiftly, we argued the case of affordability, circumstances, and the legitimate aim and objectives of the tenets of the operation of the Council’s scheme. We were surprised to find that the Council had failed to take into account the personal and financial situation of our client and took into account facts they need not have.

Our case presentation was so water tight it gave no room for manoeuvre by the council.  Our client was awarded over 50% of their council tax discount under the reduced scheme, and therefore the service used by our sister organisation, Discovering Potential & Prosperity really impacted immensely on eliminating the potential poverty faced and poor living standards of our client.

Instead, our charity led on finite investigations of the council’s administration scheme, and exposed its loophole of breaching their duty of care for vulnerable clients with disabilities and calculation of income.

The amount our client now has to pay is exponentially low, affordable, and they can improve their well-being tremendously not having to worry about managing their finances. .
